Severe Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
Severe anxiety disorder is the umbrella
diagnosis to describe countless symptoms of anxiety disorders
that are bugging the lifestyle of most adults today. Here are
the most common types of severe anxiety
disorder to help you check if you are experiencing any
of such symptoms.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. This is characterized by
symptoms of anger, depressing thoughts and anxiety that is
triggered by any life-threatening or traumatic experience. It
usually happens a month after the trigger event occurred. What
prompted panic attacks and irrational anxiety are the memories
of the traumatic experience which is usually reminded to the
patient by his or her environment and social interactions.
Women who were victims of child abuse and molestation, rape and
a traumatic child birth become vulnerable to this kind of
severe anxiety disorder. Insomnia, depression,
intrusive thoughts and instances of avoidant behavior are
indicative of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Irrational and uncontrollable
repetitive behaviors and recurring anguish are the symptoms of
obsessive-compulsive disorder. Patients who are suffering from
this kind of severe anxiety disorder behave as
such to compensate with and reduce their anxiety which is
provoked by distressing thoughts. This should not be mistaken
with obsessive-compulsive personality. Although there are some
similarities, they differ in terms of how much the disorder
interferes with the normal functioning of the individual.
There are different ways to deal with severe anxiety
disorder, all of which has to be administered by a
professional therapist or psychiatrist. Most of the time, the
combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication is
employed to achieve remarkable results.
