Lump in Throat Thyroid - Can it be Cancer? 

Cancer, or that which is known as the big C, is a terrible dilemma that may hit any range of age group. Generally, people who are past 30 years old are the common targets but this doesn't mean that the younger generation is safe from its perilous attack. The effect of which is usually aggressive and there is a large number of sufferers who end up losing in the battle. Thyroid cancer is one of the problems that confront today's people. The lump in throat thyroid cases may or may not suggest cancer after all. Scientifically speaking, 99% of the nodules in the thyroid are not cancerous but it also doesn't erase the fact that there is a tendency for them to promote the big C. 

Getting to Know the Thyroid and the Cancer that it Brings 

The thyroid gland is situated in the front portion of the neck and below that of the thyroid cartilage or otherwise referred to as the Adam's apple. This organ is shaped like a butterfly which then goes a long way towards the middle section of the neck. The so-called wings extend on either of the sides of the Adam's apple. They are known to be the thyroid lobes. Overall, the thyroid is popularly known to generate and at the same time secrete the thyroid hormones towards the bloodstream. 

Thyroid cancer is developed in none other than but in the thyroid. It may be small yet the hormones that it produces maintain the proper functioning of the metabolism process, the regular heart rate, and even the procedure of burning down the calories. In short, these hormones contribute a lot to the normal performance of the body. Anybody can basically develop the cancer which is most possibly rooted from a lump in throat thyroid. 

Determining the Cause of Thyroid Cancer 

Medical diagnoses reveal that people aged 25 up to 65 years old are knocked out by this type of cancer. Age is also a basis for the diagnosis. Up to this date, there is no specific reason that can be pointed out as the major cause of thyroid cancer except for heredity or family history and the severe exposure of the gland to radiation. Again, it must be noted that not all lumps in throat thyroid can end up with cancer. 

The Symptoms at Hand 

There are various symptoms that manifest the presence of cancer. One who is afflicted with the problem experiences one or more of the following: 

• Severe pain in the neck or throat which commonly extends up to the ears
• A lump that is felt at the base of the neck
• The hoarse voice that never gets back to normal
• Sore throat that never gets better
• Other lumps in the neck
• Difficulty in swallowing
• Worrisome benign nodules which have risks of developing into cancer
• Difficulty in speaking and breathing
• Swelling of the neck
• Swelling of the lymph nodes
• Changing of the voice
• Painful throat

Apart from the lump in throat thyroid, these other symptoms determine if you are a candidate for thyroid cancer. Consult a doctor at once. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and thyroid hormone therapy are among the treatments that the physician may administer.
