Rapid Heartbeat and Shortness of Breath
Rapid heartbeat, or the excessive fast beating of
heart, is a condition wherein the cardiac rhythm is way too
fast when compared to normal. Rapid heartbeat is associated
with shortness of breath. Why? This is because when heart beat
s increase, the need for myocardial oxygen also increases. This
leads to shortness of breath.
Rapid heartbeat shortness of breath
can be life-threatening. Palpitations are not always
accompanied by shortness of breath. When noticed that rapid
heart beat is experienced with shortness of breath, it is time
to visit a doctor since it implies a serious
condition. This can be caused by
smoking.
The following are just some of the causes
identified:
- Respiratory conditions
- Psychological factors (depression,
anxiety)
- Heart conditions
- Anemia
- High blood pressure
- Certain drug use (cocaine,
amphetamine)
- Cold remedies
- Antidepressants
One of the major causes aside from heart disease is
respiratory conditions. Fast beating of heart with shortness of
breath is common to smokers. However, this does not mean that
it is normal. Though to be expected, this indicates that one’s
smoking habits have gone too far and maybe a little hard to
control. Smokers are advised to stop smoking. It is true that
not everyone can stop that easy, thus, therapies are also
recommended to those who know that they will not be able to
stop immediately.
Rapid heart beat and shortness of breath, when accompanied
by chest pains is to be consulted with a doctor. A lot of
people disregard this, especially when they are smoking, and
this often leads to more serious problems.
