Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD is a
disorder that refers to the late reaction to an extremely life
threatening or stressful incident. The causes for PTSD are
innumerable and disgusting, and more than forty million women
in the US experience it. Even though sexual or childhood abuse
is the usual cause of PTSD, other incidents which result in
psychological trauma can also set off the disorder. These
involve life threatening mishaps, natural disasters or
wars.
Due to the harshness of the disaster or incident, the
incapability of the individual to evade or handle the trauma is
the reason why it comes to this Post traumatic stress
disorder. And because of the great negative impact,
the individual will avoid any event or situation that might
take them back to that traumatic incident in their life.
While Post traumatic stress disorder has
been attributed to internal conflict, latest research has
revealed that these psychological conditions are really caused
by old traumatic events that the sufferer has experienced or
witnessed. Furthermore, it is possible that the intense stress
that was experienced all through that traumatic event has
resulted in physical injuries to the hippocampus, the section
of the brain that deals with the emotions of stress and
fear.
For an individual who is tormenting from post
traumatic stress disorder, any spur of event taking
place can activate the symptoms and the person will suffer both
physically and psychologically. There will be recurring
flashbacks of the unpleasant incident, and going through this
fearful experience will eventually cause a change in the
sufferer’s behavior. Some changes are in the form of
listlessness, the need to be alone, and amnesia.
